It feels like there is no better time to be a console gamer than right now. The Microsoft Xbox has a lot to offer in terms of variety, from action-packed games to more laidback and relaxed games like Ori, a Metroidvania with beautiful graphics. Our list of best XBOX games in 2020 includes games that are not as popular but amazing in terms of gameplay.
1. Ori and the Will of the Wisps
This game is perhaps not one of the most popular games on our list, but it still made it to our best XBOX games 2020 list. Developed by Moon Studios, Ori is a ‘Metroidvania’ type of game. For anyone unaware, the term refers to a mix of the genres of Metroid and Castlevania. The game uses the classic 2d scroller camera but with 3D-ish graphics and fantastic lighting. As usual, with most Metroidvania games, Ori focuses on exploring and killing enemies along the way while gaining new abilities.
2. Apex Legends
Released more than one year ago, Apex quickly became one of the most popular games in the world. It’s a free-to-play Battle Royale game set in a futuristic world where players can scavenge for weapons and equipment in squads up to three players or solo. As most battle royales, the game is focused on surviving, being the last one alive. If you are playing as a team, you are not instantly killed but rather knocked down, which allows your team to save you within a period, however, even if the player is killed, he can still be resurrected later one using respawn banners.
3. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Sekiro, released only a few weeks ago, is an action video game focused on combat, stealth, and exploration. The primary battle in the game is against bosses and often references Buddhist mythology. The game is played in a third-person view, and the gameplay and combat have been described as incredibly precise. Sekiro is not made for those with low patience. The game difficulty ramps up quickly, and players will need to be faster and practice all the new moves learned before, timing is critical.
The second Battle Royale game on our list is Fortnite, one of the most popular games in the world at some point but still extremely popular. Like any classic Battle Royale, Fortnite is focused on action, finding weapons, and being the last one to survive. There are two main strategies, hide and wait or aggressive action trying to kill as many players as possible to steal their loot. However, unlike other Battle Royales, Fortnite has one distinctive feature, building. Players need to gather resources from the map or players to have materials to build walls, stairs, or even traps. The core gameplay of Fortnite is shooting and building, sometimes virtually at the same time. The newest season was released in February and included a ton of new skins, including the famous ‘Deadpool’ character by Marvel.
5. Call of Duty Warzone
And another Battle Royale makes its way into our list. The newest Call of Duty Modern Warfare includes the Warzone mode, a battle royale mode that has become extremely popular among cod players. Some key differences set Warzone apart from other battle royales. For instance, the game supports up to 150 players instead of 100 and has a new respawn mechanic called the Gulag. When you die, you are sent to a prison where you can fight with another player, if you win, you are respawned and sent back to the Battle Royale map.
This concludes our Best XBOX games 2020 list. As you can see, the Battle Royale genre is taking over as most of our list is made from battle royale Xbox games. We were still able to include some lesser-known but equally fun games that we hope you enjoyed.
